Chris Sutton says there’s one thing which Brendan Rodgers simply cannot do at Celtic now

Now that Rangers are pretty much level at the top of the league with Celtic, this season’s title race is going to be a tightly contested affair.

With Celtic still top of the league due to having scored more goals than Rangers, Chris Sutton has shared exactly what he thinks Brendan Rodgers can’t do if still wants to retain the title this season.

Sutton said [BBC Football Daily], “There are grumblings and rumblings going on at Celtic and the fan base aren’t happy or there’s a certain section of the fan base aren’t happy about, about various things which we haven’t got long enough to go into.

“But I mean, the one thing which Rangers can’t afford to do and I don’t think they will, because I don’t think the manager will allow them to do is to get complacent.

“We have seen them get complacent in previous seasons. But things can unravel quickly either way. You know, Rangers certainly haven’t cracked it. I don’t think Philippe Clement is saying that they have.

“Celtic certainly, their title dreams aren’t over. Celtic haven’t performed at the level this season which they did do under Ange Postecoglou, that’s clear, but it’s level pegging.

“They have to play each other twice and Celtic have defeated Rangers in the head-to-head games so far.

“But Rangers’ comeback is pretty phenomenal. They’re a different team. They’ve got a different attitude and a serious manager.”

Celtic cannot drop any more points this season

Brendan Rodgers knows this and so do the Celtic fans, however, now that Rangers are neck-and-neck the need for more consistency is more pressing than ever.

Recent winning performances against Hibs and Ross County were less than impressive and, if truth be told, points could have easily been dropped in both those games.

However, against St Mirren, the team looked more cohesive and had more of an attacking intent about them.

But defensively, Celtic still looked shaky in Paisley. A makeshift back four didn’t exactly help as three of our starting four defenders are still currently on the treatment table.

Hopefully, Greg Taylor will be back and will be followed quickly by Cameron Carter-Vickers. Having a settled backline will be a huge help heading into the last 13 games of the season because any further slip-ups could be the difference in this title race.
