Chris Sutton sends grim tweet after Celtic drop points vs St Johnstone

BT Sport pundit Chris Sutton has sent a grim six-worded tweet after Celtic dropped points at home to St Johnstone this afternoon.

Mohamed Elyounoussi’s late equaliser salvaged a point at home to Callum Davidson’s Saints, but it won’t be enough to appease a Celtic support who have now seen their side win only two games out of their last 12.

It was yet another low from the Hoops who slipped to 13 points behind Rangers in the title-race, albeit with two games in hand. The draw also means that Celtic have now failed to win any of their last five home matches in all competitions.

And Sutton has made it clear that Lennon’s time to go has occurred:

This was surely his final chance

I was one of the Celtic supporters who was happy to give Lennon one more chance today. December marked the opportunity of a fresh start for him. The start of a six-game run that should’ve resulted in us building some momentum ahead of Ibrox.

Today must be the final straw. Just listen to some of these results:

Celtic 0-2 Rangers. Aberdeen 3-3 Celtic. Hibernian 2-2 Celtic. Celtic 1-4 Sparta Prague. Sparta Prague 4-1 Celtic. Celtic 0-2 Ross County. Celtic 1-1 St Johnstone.

This is now bordering on scandalous. Neil has had the backing of the Celtic support for a long time and deservedly so. But regardless of how big a Hoops-minded fan he may be, it simply must be recognised that now is the time to cut this operation. He must recognise, for the good of the club, he now has to walk.

Should we win our games in-hand, we’ll now be an incredible SEVEN points behind our Glasgow rivals. That’s so close to being irretrievable even with a new manager. Lennon quite simply needs to allow his successor in before this really is beyond everyone.

The Prague defeats were the eye-openers. County was the final straw. Tonight was even beyond that. Lenny’s position is unfortunately untenable and, going by what Sutton is saying, even Lennon’s good pals agree.

Dermot and Peter – it’s time to step up.
