Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton hasn’t been impressed with one Hoops attacker in particular this season.

The player that he has not been convinced by is Celtic winger Scott Sinclair.

“He’s lost his confidence, has become hesitant on the ball” Sutton said, as reported by the Daily Record.

“Displays have been sub-standard”

“Sinclair’s numbers look good but his displays have been sub-standard.”

The timing of Sutton’s comments is interesting, as the player has just agreed a new one-year contract extension with the club.

It is fair to say that he isn’t playing as well as his first season with the club, when Sinclair was named as Scotland’s player of the year.

Comments are harsh

But Sutton is being a bit harsh on the attacker.

He is still one of Celtic’s top scorers this season with 17 goals. That is a great return for a winger, especially one that has been in poor form this season.

Can Sinclair play better? Yes, but on his day he can still be a very useful player for Celtic. Neil Lennon and those in charge at the club must still value Sinclair.

If they didn’t they wouldn’t have agreed to extend his contract.

There is no doubt that if Sinclair sees Sutton’s comments he will think they are too harsh. He will be looking to prove the former Hoops man wrong for the rest of the season. Only time will tell if he does that.
