You win some, you lose some and over the years Celtic fans have seen their team pick up so many winners’ medals it has almost become routine.
The Scottish champions were huge favourites to lift the treble after Celtic sealed the League Cup and Scottish Premiership earlier this season.
Facing an Aberdeen side that Celtic had already scored 19 goals against this season, Brendan Rodgers’ side were widely expected to easily take care of the Pittodrie club at Hampden yesterday.
But as most football fans know, the game simply does not work like that and after Celtic failed to turn up in the Scottish Cup final, the Bhoys lost their chance to create more history this weekend after a 4-3 penalty shoot-out defeat decided that it was Aberdeen’s turn to lift the famous old trophy.
However, despite the disappointment, Chris Sutton summed up Celtic’s season perfectly despite the defeat.

Chris Sutton hails ‘outstanding’ Celtic as season peters out in Scottish Cup final
Losing a final at the end of the season can, and most likely will, put a dampener on any season, but for Sutton, he put the Scottish Cup defeat into perspective with a summation of Celtic’s season.
Taking to X, Sutton said, “Well played Aberdeen and Jimmy Thelin. Mitov outstanding in the shoot out.
“Not easy winning trebles and in recent times Celtic have made it look easy but as shown today it is anything but. Still an outstanding season for Celtic but Aberdeen deserve their day.”
And that is bang on the money. It’s not easy winning trebles and as Celtic fans have got used to watching their team winning finals, this time it wasn’t their day.
However, looking at the season, over the piece, Celtic cantered to the league title, broke Rangers’ hearts in the League Cup final and qualified from the Champions League group stage and took Bayern Munich to the 93rd minute in Germany to record a famous draw in UEFA’s top competition.
Brendan Rodgers backs up Sutton’s Celtic season verdict
The recent successes Celtic have enjoyed have been down to Brendan Rodgers. In 15 finals, the Celtic manager has lost just once.
Speaking at full time, Rodgers said of his Celtic successes, “To win any trophy is difficult, and you have to earn it – we don’t have a God-given right. But it really shows the consistency and the mentality over the years what this group of players and club has done.
“Today is a reminder that we’ve earned all the trophies we’ve ever won, and today we didn’t earn it, so congratulations to Aberdeen. And that will provide us with a great motivation going into the summer and into next season.”
Rodgers will ensure that Celtic will come back stronger than ever next season and fans will be hoping that the Hoops boss and the players will use this disappointment to drive them to even more success next season.
