Brendan Rodgers has found himself in hot water with the SFA after his comments about the VAR officials after Celtic’s defeat to Hearts last Sunday.
The Celtic manager was charged by the national association and is due to attend a hearing after branding the officials as ‘incompetent’ last weekend.
And whilst Rodgers highlighting the inefficiencies of VAR was welcomed last weekend, Chris Sutton believes he could have sent a more ‘powerful’ message to the SFA if the Celtic boss had done just one more thing.
Sutton said [Daily Record], “It just seems like Celtic have brought so much on themselves this season with so much confusion.
“Rodgers has now landed in hot water for his post-match comments and could be forced to sit in the stands for the Rangers game at Ibrox.
“Apparently, you can’t question the competence of the officials – even if they have been incompetent. I can’t help but think Rodgers’ rant would have been more powerful if he mentioned Celtic’s penalty.”
As we spoke about earlier, Rodgers may well escape punishment from the SFA after the Celtic boss revealed the SFA’s explanation for Hyunjun Yang’s red card.

And whilst I understand what Sutton means about Rodgers not mentioning the penalty Celtic got, you have to remember that Rodgers was fuming about two decisions that could cost Hoops boss the league title.
Celtic had the opportunity to leapfrog Rangers at the top of the league with a win at Tynecastle and whilst I wouldn’t assume that a win was a foregone conclusion, the team’s chances were ultimately harmed by two decisions by the matchday officials.
However, we need to wait just over two weeks to see how this charge will pan out. Whichever way it goes, and especially if Rodgers wins his case, it will be interesting to see the arguments put forward by the SFA in defence of their referee’s decisions in this potentially title-damaging Tynecastle defeat.
