Chris Sutton tells Celtic fans what Brendan Rodgers will ‘never’ do as Hoops boss opens up on Parkhead future

Brendan Rodgers has just one year left on his current Celtic contract.

Since Rodgers returned to Celtic in the summer of 2023, the Northern Irishman has delivered four trophies from six and came close to winning another treble this season.

Rodgers has also restored Celtic’s reputation in the Champions League after negotiating the Parkhead club’s route out of the league phase this season for the first time since 2013.

And now, as the Celtic manager reviews the season ahead, Rodgers has spoken out about his future as he enters into the final year of his contract and Chris Sutton has shared what the Parkhead boss will ‘never’ do.

Chris Sutton says Brendan Rodgers will ‘never’ walk away from Celtic

Every Celtic fan will remember the time Rodgers left Glasgow for Leicester in 2019. The Hoops boss hasn’t forgotten that either and that was one of the main reasons he returned to Paradise. To repair the damage done by that.

And here, Sutton firmly believes Rodgers will never do that to the Celtic support again.

Sutton told Sky Sports, “I think that’s very difficult [to know if he’ll stay beyond next summer]. I think there’s a lot of things which come into the equation.

“Domestically he’s only missed out on two trophies in his two spells.

“If Celtic go and win another treble next season, for example, and do okay in the Champions League – they will have to qualify first of all, which is never easy, but then if they progress, if they show a bit of progress, get out of the group stage, I think Celtic would take that.

“Maybe he’d take that, but there will come a time when he eventually thinks, I want a different challenge. I think every manager has a shelf life at Celtic or at Rangers, but he’s been so dominant. So it’s down to him.

“I mean he’s never going to cut short this three-year period, unless the club cuts it short. That’s never going to be the case.”

The headlines this morning have been dominated with Rodgers talking about possibly extending his Celtic stay.

So here is what the Celtic boss thinks will happen ‘at some point’ as Rodgers talks about a sit down with Dermot Desmond.

Rodgers told Sky Sports, “I made my promise to be here to ensure that people felt the stability that I would be and of course some noises around the end of this season, so I just wanted to make sure that there was no distractions there.

“I’m sure at some point I’ll sit with Dermot and the board and we’ll have a chat around the future but we haven’t touched on that yet.

“The focus has been purely on being successful this season and then we’ll arrive into the summer with real positivity and a real positive energy and I think that’s what’s important.”

Celtic fans can at least be assured that no matter what, Rodgers will be in Paradise until the end of next season. As for the rest, over to you Dermot.
