Chris Sutton wants Celtic goalkeeping improvement

Celtic hero Chris Sutton believes the club should be looking to improve the goalkeeping situation this summer.

Before the match on BT Sport, Sutty spoke about Craig Gordon’s absence and the potential of Scott Bain.

He claimed that he isn’t entirely happy with the new first choice as he has had a couple of spills recently.

However, his impressive clean sheet record should tell a different story, surely?

Bain better in goals than Gordon

It’s clear now that the 27-year-old is Neil Lennon’s first choice between the sticks.

Since Brendan Rodgers’ new year switch, the Dalkeith stopper hasn’t really looked back and has been assured.

However, Sutton did question Bain’s spill that could have led to a late equaliser for Rangers which was stopped by an impressive tackle by Kristoffer Ajer.

One thing is for sure, that is at the moment Bain is better than Gordon or any other keeper at the club.

It’s unknown if Sutton wants a replacement for first-choice which would mean Bain losing his spot.

Alternatively, he could be looking at Gordon’s situation – an ageing keeper who won’t get much game time now.

He is an ample back-up for Bain but the 36-year old may weigh up his summer options.

Who to come in as a replacement?

Oddly enough, the Scottish top flight seems to be littered year on year with top goalkeepers.

The Hoops even got Bain from Dundee after several impressive years there and he isn’t the only one.

Impressive keepers the Hoops should look to bring in is ‘Bobby’ Zlámal from Hearts who has had a stellar season.

If The Bhoys wish to look further afield then Bordeaux stopper Benoit Costil is well within range.

The 31-year-old France international is being linked with a loan move to former club Rennes but Celtic could raid that deal to have another fine experienced keeper.

It remains to be seen what happens with the goalkeeper situation and who will come in.

There are a few youths such as Conor Hazard, a Northern Ireland international, who can come in directly.

However, like everything behind the scenes at Celtic at the moment, we just have to wait and see.
