Chris Sutton has provided his immediate reaction to Rangers vs Celtic after a miserable derby defeat at Ibrox.

Celtic came up short in a 1-0 defeat in Govan thanks to Filip Helander’s second-half header. The Hoops had chances to win the game, but simply didn’t take them.

The result means the positive atmosphere surrounding the club has been ripped out of us in a demoralising afternoon.

However, Sutton tried to put some perspective on the game as he highlighted the improvement under Ange Postecoglou:

Celtic lose to Rangers, but time could be a major healer

The immediate reaction to this game is raw, plain and simple. There’s nothing that can be said that will make the Celtic supporters feel any easier about what they’ve just watched.

However, time will likely be a major healer there. We know where we went wrong today, and it was a failure to change the game when we weren’t in the ascendancy. Postecoglou had the option there but decided to hold off for reasons known only to himself.

But it’s not as if Celtic are 100 miles behind their rivals. We dominated large spells of the game and piled on the pressure in the closing stages. The Hoops created some massive opportunities that should’ve been stuck away. On another day, they may very well have been buried.

So there are things we can work with. Nobody likes losing these games and it’s always a disaster when you doo. But Rangers didn’t just go 15 points clear today. We have three of these matches left and a host of difficult games to go this season for both sides.

It’s tough to keep the chin up after an afternoon like this one. Celtic, however, have the tools at their disposal to turn this around.
