Chris Sutton’s not having Robbie Savage’s title claim ahead of Rangers vs Celtic game

Celtic heads to Ibrox to face Rangers with a very comfortable lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership this afternoon.

With a 14-point advantage, Brendan Rodgers knows that whatever happens in the Glasgow Derby the Celtic boss will still be top of the league.

The only thing he has to think about is how big the advantage will be. Rodgers’ record as Celtic boss over Rangers is impeccable.

With 16 wins in 20, Rodgers has the chance to pull further ahead of Rangers with another win at Ibrox and if he does that, a 17-point gap will be unassailable, according to Robbie Savage.

Chris Sutton makes title claim even if Celtic beat Rangers at Ibrox

Savage reckons that the title race will be over if Celtic beat Rangers at Ibrox this afternoon but that is a view that is being rejected by Celtic hero, Chris Sutton.

Savage told BBC 606, “It’s the big one tomorrow isn’t it? Rangers, Celtic. It’s over if Celtic win it, isn’t it? It’s over now, isn’t it?”

Sutton replied, “Wouldn’t say it’s over, Rob. I mean, if you’re a Celtic player, you can’t think like that. We’re 14 points ahead at the moment, but yeah, let’s put it out there.

“Is the league over in the north of the border, the Rangers and Celtic fans.”

Celtic’s fixtures compared to Rangers after Glasgow Derby game

Celtic have eight fixtures to play in January including the visit to Rangers this afternoon. With Rodgers fighting on three fronts domestically and on the continent, a win today will increase his breathing space at the top of the league.

Whilst the league title is not over yet, it will be nigh on impossible for Rangers to catch Celtic if Rodgers records another Ibrox win, both teams’ run of Scottish Premiership fixtures after the Glasgow Derby will come into focus.

With three homes compared Rangers’ three away fixtures, there is a very real chance that despite what happens today at Ibrox, Celtic could have the title wrapped up by the end of the month.
