Christopher Jullien has revealed that he urged Leigh Griffiths to keep delivering well from set-pieces, because he knew he would score.

The big Frenchman netted his fifth goal in the Hoops last night as he rose highest in a crowded penalty area to bullet in our final goal in the 3-1 win away to Kilmarnock.

Although the finish was thumping, the majority of the goal’s quality came from Griffiths’ corner delivery.

And Jullien was on hand post-match to pay attention to that very factor.

“Since last week he’s given me some great delivery”, the defender explained.

“I just said to him ‘Keep hitting the same ball every time and I will score for sure’.

“I’m just really happy to score and for him to get the assist.

“He is one of the best strikers in this league. He is just bringing so much energy to us and the collaboration he has with Odsonne is just great.

“They showed us tonight that they can play together and they did it well.”

Jullien and Griffiths could strike up a superb dead-ball partnership

So much has been made about Griffiths’ scoring return to the team.

However, his assisting can’t be overlooked either. With Jullien and the likes of Kristoffer Ajer and Jozo Simunovic all standing well above six foot, we really could be a dominating teams from set-pieces.

During his first tenure as Hoops boss, Lennon’s teams frequently used set-pieces to their advantage.

The gaffer’s celebration when Jullien’s netted last night suggests his views haven’t changed on their importance in the game.

We haven’t scored nearly enough from corners so far this season but maybe Griffiths’ return could change that.

Despite being a poacher, the forward delivers the best dead-ball at the club.

If he can keep that up then Jullien will bag a few more goals between now and the end of May.
