Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has discussed the differences and similarities between teammate Odsonne Edouard and former Hoops star Moussa Dembele, The Evening Times report.
Dembele, who is rated as worth £27m by Transfermarkt these days, has had a storming start to the season at Lyon. He’s scored six goals in seven matches, cementing his reputation as one of the hottest strikers in Europe right now.
Edouard continues to perform well for Celtic too. He seems to be following a similar path to his compatriot, prompting all sorts of comparisons in recent weeks and months.
Jullien is uniquely well placed to discuss the attributes of both. He’s been a teammate of Edouard at two clubs and played against Dembele last season before joining Celtic.
He reckons there’s a distinct difference in their playing style, but feels both are excellent strikers on their day.
As quoted by The Evening Times, he said: “I played against Dembele last season. They are different. Dembele is more a real No.9.
“I think Odsonne can be that No.9 who can just move everywhere. That is so good for our team because we have a lot of players who play with the ball.
“He is different to Dembele, but they are both unbelievable.”
Our next big money export?
Now that Kieran Tierney has moved on, pundits and media sources are looking at the Celtic squad and speculating about who the next big money exit from Celtic Park is.
Edouard’s rise over the last 12 months has been incredible to watch and if he works himself into that kind of position, it’ll only be after even more goals and trophies delivered to Celtic Park.
At this point it’s an inevitable strategy we’ll pursue when we feel the player is at his peak value, or is itching for a move. Neither of these conditions have been met yet.
With eight goals and five assists already this season he’s contributing massively. At the very least, we can expect to see that until the end of this season.
Let’s enjoy him while he’s here.
