Christopher Jullien is closing in on a Celtic return and could even feature against Sparta Prague in the Europa League tonight, Neil Lennon told reporters during his press conference yesterday.
He said: “Jullien is in contention to start, as is Elhamed.”
Those comments follow on from a Lennon interview in this week’s Celtic View, that revealed the French defender actually almost made the team against Hibernian at the weekend.
As quoted by the club magazine (25/11 print edition, page 6), he said: “Chris Jullien should be back soon. He’s a good player and it was touch and go whether we brought him in for Hibs.
“It’s not just down to one person though. We need to defend better as a team and that’s a collective responsibility.”
Celtic’s defence has really been all at sea in recent weeks, so any reinforcements that can come in and sharpen everyone up would be really welcome.
Jullien started the season poorly like the rest of his teammates, but time out of the side has hopefully refocused him to find the best of his 2019/20 form.
The Frenchman has been out of the team since September 12th, more than a two-month absence.
Signed last summer, he was excellent in the vast majority of matches last term, helping the Bhoys to big victories at home and abroad.
He’s also a key attacking aerial threat, scoring massive goals against Lazio and Rangers to provide some of our most memorable moments over the last 18 months.
It would be fantastic if he proves to be the missing piece of the defensive puzzle tonight, up against a Sparta Prague side that routed us earlier this month.
