Christopher Jullien has opened up on the controversial tweet he sent out after Celtic’s loss to Livingston earlier this season.
The Frenchman caused a bit of a stir on social media when he apologised for being “too nervous” just days after our 2-0 loss at the Tony Macaroni Arena back in October. The big 6ft 5in defender also thanked Livingston’s attack for a “wake up call” a vowed to never let it happen again in an infamous tweet that was liked nearly 7,000 times.

Many felt Jullien was wrong to come out so honestly on social media, especially when the side were struggling for form. But he has since helped us to a run of nine successive league victories – with seven clean sheets in that time.

Jullien comments on infamous tweet
“After that game I said what I said because I think I really learned in that game,” he told press on Friday, as per the official Celtic YouTube channel.
“I was just new in the league and it was one of my first games against a big striker in Scotland. I learned a lot in that game and I can still learn every day.
“When I played against Aberdeen in the first game I saw that he (Cosgrove) was a strong striker. But we took the lead really early in the game so mentally it was really good.

“But I know I can learn every day. And tomorrow I can definitely learn about this striker, or us, or the opponent for sure.”
The big defender certainly seems to have learned from the Livingston debacle and, as fans, that’s all we can really ask for. Jullien probably took the Scottish game a little for granted after excelling in Europe and that’s okay, as long as he learns from that.

Seven clean sheets in nine league matches suggests he and the rest of the backline have done just that. Sam Cosgrove will be another stern test at Celtic Park on Saturday but assuming Jullien’s up for it, he should be just fine.
And while he’s playing well and the team are winning, he’s always more likely to get away with some questionable social media posts.
