Celtic defender Christopher Jullien has said what many fans would have liked him to, as he revealed that the side’s “main target” for the second half of the season is to win the Premiership.

Neil Lennon’s men have a two point lead at the top of the table but have played a game more than Rangers. And after the Ibrox side’s win at Parkhead last week, it is time to concede that we’re in a title fight.

Jullien may only have resided in Glasgow for six months but he’s already aware of what is most important: winning the league.

“I do set my own personal goals, but my main focus is on winning the league this season,” the big defender told the club’s official website from Dubai. “That’s everyone’s main target for the second half of the season.

“Winning the League Cup was a great feeling, but now we know that now, we’re still part of three competitions, which means we still have three competitions to win.

“I’d love to win everything ahead, for sure, but in order to have a chance of winning anything, we have to work hard. From here, that starts at this training camp.

“You can’t win any of these competitions if you don’t work hard enough. My main focus is help us win the league. If I tick off any personal goals between now and then, then that’s a bonus.”

Jullien and team-mates must focus on Premiership campaign

Jullien’s words will be music to the ears of the vast majority of the Celtic support. Yes, we want to win another treble, and a Europa League run would be great too. But winning nine-in-a-row is the most important thing on offer by far.

This team, and Neil Lennon as a boss, will be defined by whether they can clinch our fabled ten titles in-a-row over the next 18 months or so. And make no mistake about it, we’re in a proper title fight this season.

It’s, therefore, really refreshing to hear the likes of Jullien speaking so positively about wanting to win the league. The players shouldn’t be intimidated by the pressure that’s on their shoulders. They should relish the chance to put their names in the history books.

If Jullien’s mentality is reflected around our changing room, we’re in for a few really good months.
