Former Hamilton Accies defender Ziggy Gordon has revealed how the departure of ex-Celtic forward Cillian Sheridan helped out reported Hoops target Patryk Klimala. (linked by the Daily Record)

Gordon was team-mates with both Sheridan and Klimala when he spent one year in Poland with top-flight side Jagiellonia between 2017 and 2018, and as he gave his view on the in-form Celtic target to the Scottish Sun, he also revealed the bizarre tale of how Sheridan helped him out by leaving.

“Klimala was a wirey player,” Gordon recalled. “Very athletic and enthusiastic. He never gave defenders time on the ball. He’s a very similar player to Griffiths.

“He’s a box player and always stays in the box trying to finish off scraps.

A new dawn beckons for Celtic in Europe, as Joe Hart shows his class once again

“Unfortunately he had a lot of competition at the club when I was there with top internationalists but they left a year later and he got a chance and took it. Funnily enough he got his chance when Cillian Sheridan left.

“He’s not a link up player. More someone who stays in the box and can make an impact from the bench.”

Sheridan and Klimala hold similar scoring records for Jagiellonia

Sheridan struck 20 goals all in for Jagiellonia before departing for A-League side Wellington Phoenix in 2018. Klimala then entered the scene and has netted seven goals in 18 appearances so far this term. (transfermarkt.co.uk)

At just 21, Klimala clearly has real potential for growth. It is also interesting to hear Gordon refer to him as a player who could have a big say from the bench. That would fit our need for him at the moment as, chances are, he wouldn’t be starting too many games ahead of Odsonne Edouard.

So many times this season we’ve thrown on Vakoun Bayo or Leigh Griffiths while struggling and they’ve done very little. We need someone who can impact the match from the bench and Klimala seems like that guy.

His scoring record isn’t bad but it’s not totally prolific when compared to fellow reported targets like Tino Kadewere and Andraz Sporar. But Klimala is younger than both of them. That may attract us to a move for him.
