Celtic have been featured as the latest illustration in a series by media outlet Web Sportiva in Japan, portraying the Bhoy’s Japanese contingent and Ange Postecoglou as stars of the famous Trainspotting movie poster.

Yes you read that right. The iconic Trainspotting line-up has been transformed to include Ange Postecoglou, Yosuke Ideguchi, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Daizen Maeda.

Celtic’s official Japanese account shared the image on social media earlier, bringing awareness to supporters over here.

Celtic’s online presence in Japan has taken a massive boost since Kyogo Furuhashi and Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club during the summer.

The club launched a Japanese website and Twitter account, which has already garnered over 45,000 followers, making it one of the biggest Japanese language accounts in Europe.

Most of those interacting with the account are doing so in Japanese, indicating it isn’t being propped up by fans in Scotland.

The arrival of three more people from the J-League has only ramped up the hype levels further.

Highlight videos of Daizen Maeda’s and Reo Hatate’s debuts have attracted more than one million views on the official SPFL YouTube, far more than the usual numbers for Celtic videos on the platform.

It’s harder work than many assume to turn this into commercial opportunities and increased revenue on a large scale, but it is heartening to see Celtic and the league experiment with the new exposure.

If Celtic’s Japanese contingent continue to be a success and end up shining regularly for the national team, this kind of favourable media attention is only going to increase.
