Celtic fans may have an eye on the Champions League clash between CFR Cluj and Maccabi Tel Aviv on Wednesday.

That’s because Neil Lennon’s side will play the winner of the tie if they can overcome Nomme Kalju over the next fortnight.

The Israeli champions are perhaps the slight favourites to win the overall tie but they are certainly underdogs as they travel to face the Feroviarii this midweek.

Cluj certainly have the advantage of having more games under their belt. They’ve already seen off Astana in an impressive Champions League win and started their league campaign with four points from six.

Postecoglou hints at big week of Celtic announcements

Maccabi, meanwhile, have played just one so-called competitive game this season. That was on Saturday when they defeated Yehuda in the Israeli Super Cup. Their league campaign doesn’t get underway until the end of August so there is a chance they’ll be caught cold in Romania.

The first leg kicks off at 7pm Celtic Park time while the second leg is next Tuesday at 6pm – the exact time Celtic start in Tallinn.

What else is on besides Cluj vs Maccabi?

Celtic fans may have a keen eye on the likes of BATE vs Rosenborg and Maribor vs AIK Stockholm on Wednesday. All four teams could be potential opponents in the final Playoff round if we get there.

Basically, we’re looking for as many shocks as possible so that our route is as easy as it can be.
