Clyde 1 pundit Derek Johnstone tips Celtic to win nothing

So who had Derek Johnstone as the winner for the most ludicrous pre-season predictions in punditry?

At this rate, the big Clyde 1 Superscoreboard pundit is on course to match our nine-in-a-row run with this award. Once again, he’s incredibly tipped Rangers to win the league.

That’s par for the course right enough. And, granted, he’s hardly the only one. Plenty of Scottish journalists have been buying into the bravado and tipping Rangers to end our dominance.

But Johnstone’s tips for this season get even better. He also has Rangers winning the Betfred Cup – another competition Celtic have won in each of the past three years.

And, to top it all off, surely, big Derek gives us the Scottish Cup then? Absolutely not, that would suggest common sense. Instead, he’s gone for Aberdeen to lift the big cup.

Yes, apparently we’re going to have a success-free season under Neil Lennon. Steven Gerrard’s men are going to race to a double whilst we just sit in awe of this amazing turnaround in fortunes.

Johnstone won’t be the only one gulping in nervousness after the first weekend of the season.

As Celtic dismantled St Johnstone on Saturday with incredible ease, Rangers stumbled to a lucky victory at Rugby Park. The “that’s what Champions do” nonsense is all well and good, but that won’t wash with the many who watched them struggle at Killie.

Celtic supporters and no doubt the players have gotten used to this. Pundits like Johnstone tipping our league success to come to a crashing halt. Why do they think that? Well Stevie G of course.

Of course, his good Rangers mate Alex Rae also gave his old team a nice healthy double this season. We certainly seem to be getting generous and allowing the Ibrox club a trophy or too according to their old players.

At the very least, Rae gave us a Scottish Cup to try and mask his bias. Big DJ couldn’t bring himself to do that,

Save these predictions for later reference. Rangers didn’t prove they’re up to much yesterday. So long as we continue to go through the gears like we are doing, Celtic will be absolutely fine.

Many journalists will want to change their opinions on where the title is going after the first weekend alone. Big Derek probably still can’t see past his beloved though.
