There was a very bizarre end to the Glasgow Cup clash between Clyde and Celtic Colts on Tuesday night as Bully Wee boss Danny Lennon made a surprise appearance.

Lennon decided to include himself in the closing stages of the game at Broadwood which the home side ran out 3-1 winners in.

The experienced boss, who retired at Cowdenbeath 11 years ago, threw himself on against some players who were still in their teens.

Has Danny Lennon made a mockery of the competition?

Lennon is actually 50-years-old meaning that he was almost three times as old as some of the Hoops players also taking part. The Celts had the likes of Armstrong Oko-Flex and Ewan Henderson in on the action while new recruit Luca Connell also played in the midfield.

It was their first of eight league matches in the revamped competition. They will also take on fellow Glasgow sides Partick Thistle and Queen’s Park as well as the Rangers Colts.

You would love to know what Lennon was thinking when he hurled himself on for the closing stages of the encounter. The Clyde boss only named three outfield subs, himself included, so he clearly always had designs on making the change.

You wonder how the sub reflects on the integrity of the competition though.
