Celtic have been drawn against FC Midtjylland in the second round of Champions League qualifying.

It’s Ange Postecoglou’s first competitive test as Celtic manager, and it couldn’t be more tantalising. After a brief pre-season, the Bhoys will meet their Champions League opponents on July 20/21 and then the 27th or 28th. The Hoops will be in the Champions League Third Qualifying Round draw, which takes place on draw on 19 July. So, we’ll find out our next opponents prior to meeting Midtjylland, should we progress over two legs.

And what a stern test it is for Postecoglou. FC Midtjylland represent real quality, who finished second in the Danish League. Up front, Danish international Pionte Sisto and Sory Kaba represent considerable threats, while there’s a familiar name in Erik Sviatchenko at centre-back.

FC Midtjylland drew a hard Champions League group last time round, with Ajax, Liverpool and Atalanta. They finished last, with two points [UEFA].

Incidentally, Sviatchenko has been sensationally linked with a move back to Paradise. As quoted by the Scotsman in 2018, Sviatchenko said “My dream would be to play for Celtic again.” Alison McConnell of the Daily Record is credited with this latest scoop, claiming the big Danish centre-back could be Ange Postecoglou’s first signing at the club.

“I’ll take it”; Celtic fans have mixed feelings about Champions League qualifying route
