Celtic legend and highly-decorated former captain Scott Brown has officially left Aberdeen, as confirmed by the club.
Aberdeen wished their best wishes to the departing captain, who came to the North-East alongside his former team-mate Stephen Glass in the summer of 2021. However, performances under manager Glass were extremely inconsistent.
Now, it’s Jim Goodwin in the Dons’ dugout, and this morning it seemed clear a parting of the ways was inevitable. That’s come to pass, with Scott Brown now looking for his next opportunity.

He told Aberdeen supporters [AFC]: “I would like to take this opportunity to firstly thank the Board at Aberdeen and, of course, Stephen Glass and his backroom staff, for giving me the opportunity to enjoy my first taste of coaching.
“I’d also like to thank all my team-mates and the great staff both at Cormack Park and Pittodrie. I know I was only in the North-east for a short period, but the fans made me feel welcome from day one, so my thanks must also go to them for showing me so much support.
“Aberdeen is a huge Club and I know there is a real determination from all to deliver success both on and off the pitch. I wish them all the best for the remainder of the season.”
Aberdeen Director of Football Steven Gunn wished Broony the best, saying [AFC]: “Scott has been an outstanding asset to us in the last eleven months and his contributions, both on and off the pitch, have been invaluable.
“I’ve no doubt he will bring the same desire, determination and will-to-win that he has demonstrated throughout his career when he embarks on this next chapter.”
Celtic legend Scott Brown was an ambitious target for Aberdeen, but it just didn’t work out
Currently, the Dons sit 10th, and while it’s been a difficult season on the pitch for Scott Brown, he’ll have learnt a lot off it.
It’s clear his ambitions are in coaching and management. That he was afforded the opportunity to wind down his career doing both playing and coaching was exciting. Nowadays, it’s not as common as you might think, in the top tiers at least.
This wasn’t time wasted, make no mistake. These are experiences, even if they’re bittersweet, that have armed Broony with the confidence for his next step. Or “next chapter”, as the Dons are calling it.

Where that’ll be and in what capacity? That remains to be seen.
But there’ll surely be plenty of interest in the Celtic legend, who’s seen and done it all in the game.
