Celtic will be in pot one for tomorrow’s UEFA Europa League group stage draw.

Going into tonight’s playoff round against Sarajevo, the Hoops were the fourth highest-ranked team in pot two. That was assuming the highest-ranked sides in terms of their coefficient all qualified to the groups this evening.

Basel, Copenhagen, Sporting Lisbon, and Wolfsburg all failed to get past the playoff round this evening despite initially being higher-ranked than Celtic (Kassiesa.net).

That means that the Hoops will join Gent and PSV Eindhoven in jumping up from pot two. Celtic’s 1-0 win in Sarajevo tonight secured Europa League progression.

Essentially, that means the club will avoid facing the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, Napoli, Arsenal, Roma, and Bayer Leverkusen to name a few.

A massive shot in the arm

Credit to the Bhoys. Sure, we were massive favourites against Riga and Sarajevo in both of these ties, but they showed some real character to get through them whilst continuing to win consistently in domestic action.

Managing to break into pot one tomorrow is a nice extra for their efforts over the last week, and it gives us a much healthier chance of qualifying for the last-32.

As for who we can still face, some of the glamour-looking ties from other pots include the likes of Dinamo Zagreb, Leicester City, Cluj, and Molde respectively.

All it does is heighten the excitement heading into the draw tomorrow afternoon. Last season, the Hoops were drawn against Lazio, Rennes, and Cluj. So there remains plenty of tough games in the pipeline for this competition in any case.

Avoiding a heavy-hitter is a massive bonus for Lennon however. It should make our group stage campaign that little bit less complex. Then again, when do we ever do things the easy way?

In other news, Chris Sutton has given his reaction to tonight’s result.
