Celtic will host Arbroath or Falkirk in the Scottish Cup third round.

The draw was made today and was screened live on the Scottish Cup’s official Twitter page.

Carrying out the draw was former Rangers striker Peter Lovenkrands alongside Clyde 1 Superscoreboard host Gordon Duncan. And Lovenkrands provided Celtic with a decent home clash to kick-start yet another defence of the famous trophy.

Celtic have won the Scottish Cup in each of the past four years. Our most recent success came against Hearts last month in a pulsating penalty-shootout win at Hampden.

Round three of the competition is scheduled to take place on the weekend of January 30th (SFA). However, official details of kickoff times etc have still to be confirmed by the club.

Celtic vs Arbroath or Falkirk is as good a draw as we could’ve hoped

This is a fine opening draw for us. Not just because it’s a home tie against lower league opposition and we would be expected to win it. But it’s also coming at a crucial time in our Premiership fight.

Three days before the third round fixtures, Celtic host Hamilton on Premiership duty. Three days after that we take on Kilmarnock at Rugby Park in a tricky-looking banana-skin. It’s great to be able to play out a game at Parkhead in the cup before that one. It certainly beats a lengthy away trip.

Clubs always maintain that they want a home-tie to kick them off in cup competitions. So it couldn’t have gone any better for us this morning.

Celtic will be looking to create yet another historic first with another Scottish Cup win. No club in association football have won their biggest cup trophy for five consecutive seasons. It’s yet another bit of history we can create in what’s been a trophy-laden last five years.

So cheers Peter for the home draw. Hopefully we now make the most of it.
