Celtic will receive a six-figure fee from FIFA for player participation in the 2022 World Cup, it has been confirmed by the global body today.

After every World Cup, FIFA pay clubs around the world a per day fee for their players taking part in the tournament, shared between all of the clubs who held that player’s registration in the two years prior to the event.

A total of $209m has been paid out to 440 sides around the world, with seven clubs in Scotland being beneficiaries this time around. The Bhoys top the Scottish FA table, a full breakdown has confirmed this morning.

Celtic representatives in Qatar last year included Josip Juranovic, Daizen Maeda, Aaron Mooy and Cameron Carter-Vickers – although none of them were at the Bhoys for the full two years prior, so the Scottish champions only got a share of the $10,950 per day, per player amount for each.

Celtic’s total fee from FIFA stands at $664,326, which is around £510,318 at today’s exchange rate. Rangers got $414,291, Hearts earned $325,771, Dundee United $242,734, Hibernian $229,959, St Johnstone $208,508 and St Mirren $76,653.

Under a new agreement signed earlier this year by FIFA and the European Club Association, $355m will be distributed to clubs under the programme for the 2026 and 2030 editions of the FIFA World Cup, which is a significant increase.

ECA Chairman Nasser Al-Khelaïfi said of today’s confirmed totals [FIFA]: “We are very pleased that 440 clubs worldwide – not just ECA Members and European clubs – will benefit from significant distributions from the Club Benefits Programme, as part of the agreement between ECA and FIFA for the release of 837 players participating at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“The Club Benefits Programme is one of the fundamental pillars of the recently renewed Memorandum of Understanding between ECA and FIFA. ECA works tirelessly for the benefit of all clubs and this is reflected by the increase in the amount to be distributed for the 2026 and 2030 editions.”
