Connor Goldson embarrasses himself with Celtic "outplayed" claim

Connor Goldson has made the startling claim that his Rangers side have never been outplayed in a derby since he joined the club.

The central-defender, who has never won a major honour, reckons that his Gers have held their own in every derby against the Hoops, despite him only winning two of six matches.

The English defender has lost all four of his other clashes against the rampant Celts. However, that hasn’t stopped him from making the bizarre claim.

“As the gaffer says they have numerous players that can hurt us so we need to look after more than Edouard,” he told press on Friday, as relayed by the Scottish Sun.

“We need to show our fans we are just as good as them and we can outplay them to come away with the result.

“We had the belief before the cup final, since I have been here every match has been tight and we have never been outplayed in a derby.”

Goldson should remember a couple of recent Celtic clashes

While few would argue that Rangers weren’t the better team at Hampden earlier this month, a number of Goldson’s other derby defeats are more questionable.

His very first match, back in September of last year is the most obvious one. Celtic completely dominated that Parkhead fixture, having 16 shots to the Gers’ six and leading the corner count 14-4. The score may only have been 1-0 that day but the overall match was about as dominant a display as you’re likely to see.

We hit the woodwork on four separate occasions that day and missed several other opportunities. Perhaps that slipped Goldson’s mind.

If it did then he could also think back to a more recent clash. The first derby of this season was another example of Celtic completely dominating their Ibrox opponents in every matter. We created more, defender better and won the midfield battle in our 2-0 Govan win.

Goldson should definitely remember that one. He gifted us the opening goal after all. Here’s hoping he’s feeling just as generous on Sunday.
