Copenhagen manager Stale Solbakken has confirmed that striker Jonas Wind will miss the Celtic tie through injury.
Wind has only played 10 times for the Danish champions this season. However, his last outing came all the way back in August in a 1-0 win against Randers (Transfermarkt).
Interestingly, Copenhagen won all six of the league matches Wind played in, with the striker bagging four goals in the process. He’s also been capped by Denmark at under-21 level on six occasions and has even netted for them too. A senior appearance, however, has yet to be obtained.
But in a further blow for Copenhagen, Solbakken told Ekstra Bladet that Wind isn’t due to come back until early April.
“Mikkel Kaufmann has just arrived with us, and Jonas Wind is only back after the national team break in early April. But it is our expectation that both Michael Santos and Mikkel Kaufmann will be better for us in the coming time.”
Wind blow adds to Sotiriou and Fischer set-backs
It’s not been a great week or so for Copenhagen since returning to action. Firstly, they informed supporters via their official website that Viktor Fischer would be out for several weeks, potentially ruling him out of the Celtic tie altogether.
They then followed that up with a nasty 1-0 defeat at Esbjerg in their return to competitive action. And, in a breaking story reported by Ekstra Bladet today, they sold striker Pieros Sotiriou to Astana for €5million just two days before the Celtic game.
Wind’s continued absence is just the latest setback. Funnily enough, the striker was training on Tuesday as he stepped up his recovery. Yet, despite that, he still appears to be over a month away from returning to action.
Given the fact that he’s missed the best part of between six to seven months of action, you can see why Solbakken would perhaps be hesitant to throw Wind into the mix. It’s still a boost for Celtic, however, because he’s clearly a positive young talent and a good goal threat.
Momentum continues to be with the Scottish champions heading into Thursday night. As Copenhagen struggle, Celtic find themselves 10 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership. However, Neil Lennon won’t be taking anything for granted.
Anything can happen in Denmark this week. Our worst enemy continues to be complacency. That’s something this Celtic side can’t afford to show, regardless of Copenhagen’s continued setbacks.
