It will be intriguing to see what the future holds for Celtic defender Jozo Simunovic over the next few weeks. The centre-back has been the subject of speculation about his future.

The Daily Record recently reported that Lille were set to make a second bid for the player after having an initial £5 million bid rejected.

However, events in Romania could have changed that. Simunovic was forced off during Celtic’s 1-1 draw against Cluj with an injury.

As yet, we don’t know the severity of the problem suffered by the player. Hopefully it is not a serious injury. However, if he was going to be out of action for a significant period, you would imagine that the player would not be leaving Celtic any time soon.

The Hoops might not want to sell Simuovic even if the injury isn’t that serious. There isn’t a surplus of centre-backs at the club.

Therefore, Celtic may feel that Simunvoic is worth keeping no matter what is offered by Lille. Once the severity of Simunovic’s injury is known then the situation could become clearer.

Interestingly, the transfer window in France still has weeks to go. So Lille could be taking their time before making that second bid for the player.

We shall know where Simunovic’s future lies by the end of the transfer window. But his injury may have thrown a spanner in the works.
