Could Kieran Tierney have handed Greg Taylor an international boost?

Celtic full-back Greg Taylor may once again be about to benefit from Kieran Tierney – this time on the international stage.

£25million man Tierney is reportedly set to withdraw from Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad following injury. The Scottish Sun say that the Arsenal defender, who has featured just once since his summer move, has been taken out of contention following a discussion with Gunners medics.

That could open the door for his Celtic replacement Greg Taylor to add to his single Scotland cap. The 21-year-old hasn’t featured for Neil Lennon’s side yet but he is held in high regard by the Scotland management team including Steve Clarke who he worked with at Kilmarnock.

Taylor is an adequate replacement for Tierney

It seems like an obvious choice for Taylor to be drafted in again, as he has done in each of Clarke’s two previous squads. He would still have the small task of displacing Andy Robertson but with Scotland effectively now playing for nothing – and one of the games being at home to San Marino – anything is possible.

The likes of Ryan Christie, James Forrest and Callum McGregor are also sure to be called-up although it is not yet clear whether Leigh Griffiths will get the nod. You wonder if the likes of McGregor and Forrest would prefer to sit this one out. As previously mentioned, Scotland are out of the running for qualification from the group and effectively have four friendly matches remaining.

Given the amount of football some of the Celtic guys have already played this season, it may have been nice for them to get a well needed rest. Taylor and Griffiths, however, will be keen to get back out on the pitch.
