A potential return to Celtic Park for Kieran Tierney moved a little closer after the Hoops joined the Gunners in this season’s Europa League.
Celtic exited Champions League qualifying with a 5-4 aggregate defeat to CFR Cluj on Tuesday night. They’ll now drop into the Europa League and face either AIK Stockholm (Sweden) or FC Sheriff (Molodva) for a place in the group stage.
And if they get there then we could see the possibility of Tierney’s Arsenal drawing Celtic.
What are the chances of Tierney returning to Celtic Park?
The Gunners have already booked their place in the Europa League groups and will be among the first pot of seeds. If Celtic make it they will almost certainly be in the pot directly below, meaning a bizarre reunion could be on.
Hoops fans will not even want to let the thought of their former hero returning cross their mind. The prospect of Tierney wearing the red and white of Arsenal at Celtic Park is not a pleasant one, but it would be pretty remarkable.
In 2004, Henrik Larsson returned to Glasgow and netted for Barcelona in a 3-1 Champions League win. A return for Tierney wouldn’t be quite as emotional for most but it would still make for some pretty juicy headlines.
