Aberdeen midfielder Craig Bryson has hit back at the claim made by Steven Thompson that his side lay down against Celtic on Sunday.
The Sportscene pundit made the claim on Sunday’s show as he reviewed the footage of the Dons’ 4-0 Pittodrie drubbing against the Champions. Derek McInnes’ side conceded all four goals during an awful first-half showing but former Scotland cap Bryson insists that was more down to their level of performance rather than any ulterior motive.
“Sometimes you don’t play well and you don’t win the tackles or headers, but it’s not for a lack of trying,” Bryson told the Scottish Sun.

“Sometimes a team is just better than you on the day. Our downfall was that we didn’t turn up, but we didn’t go into the game to lie down.
“The manager would never send us onto the pitch saying, ‘Just let Celtic win’. What happened was we were rubbish and they were far better than us on the day.”

Bryson and co. obviously didn’t lie down to Celtic
It’s remarkable that Bryson had to come out and reject the claim that his side deliberately forfeited the match. It’s a laughable suggestion that the Dons would come out with the intention of losing the match to Celtic. There are so many reasons why they wouldn’t that it’s barely even worth discussing.
Thompson is an educated pundit on the most part so it is possible that he just picked the wrong words to describe what he thought of the Dons performance. Being a former football himself, you doubt he would really believe that Derek McInnes’ side would deliberately let Celtic win.

Sadly, all this talk has taken away from the Celtic performance a little. Yes, Aberdeen’s tactics may have been truly awful, but we still took advantage with a swashbuckling display.
Neil Lennon may just feel that he can’t win at all at present.
