Craig Gordon answers BBC Scotland’s Celtic question; he would be eligible for Hearts final if Bhoys make it

BBC Scotland couldn’t wait to ask goalkeeper Craig Gordon if he’d want to face Celtic in the Scottish Cup Final following his side’s victory over Hibs at Hampden tonight.

The former Bhoys shot-stopper produced a man of the match performance to deny Hearts’ Edinburgh rivals an opportunity to face Aberdeen or Celtic in December’s final.

He’s done his chances of a return to the Scotland squad no harm at all.

BBC Scotland asked him post-match (19:35) if he’d fancy facing Neil Lennon’s team for the silverware, to which Gordon replied: “Yeah, I don’t mind. I’m delighted to be there. We’ll take that one when it comes, now we have to get back to league business.”

A diplomatic answer, as you’d expect from the media-savvy Invincible, but no doubt he would relish the opportunity to go up against his old side.

Gordon didn’t leave Celtic Park under a cloud, but there was clearly a bit of back and forth with contract negotiations over the summer.

He could prove a big point with an impressive final performance against the Bhoys if we make it past Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Scottish FA waived cup-tie rules over the summer, meaning players who have signed for new teams are eligible to play against their old clubs in the remainder of the 2019/20 competition.

That means Gordon, and Jonny Hayes for Aberdeen, can face off against us.

Let’s hope our summer decisions don’t come back to haunt us on the way to a quadruple treble.
