Credit where it’s due; new Celtic podcast has been a breath of fresh air

As a Celtic supporter angling for any Hoops content over the international break, the club’s new-look podcast has been a welcome sight.

I will happily admit that I hold Celtic to account on most things. Whether it’s on-field performance, transfer strategy, ticket pricing or a frustrating overuse of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ before matches, I’m a harsh critic. Many of you are probably the same.

However, credit where it’s due, the club’s media game has gone up a notch over the past few weeks with the emergence of an official club podcast.

Previously, the club did have ‘The Celtic View Podcast’. However, that idea didn’t ever seem to be fully embraced and felt more like a load of separate interviews and features joined together.

Recently, though, they have rebranded that as ‘The Official Celtic FC Podcast‘ and seem to be taking it much more seriously this time. The weekly show is available in audio on all the major podcast apps, and in video on YouTube.

It seems to be recorded ‘as live’ which wasn’t the case previously. And they’ve already had some genuinely interesting guests on the show.

Paul Lambert, Harry Kewell and John Kennedy have all joined host Ryan Maher so far. The latter two would be unlikely to appear on anything other than an official podcast while under contract at the club. So the Celtic support is getting some genuinely exclusive content.

There are still a few natural drawbacks. You’re never likely to hear anything critical of the team or club, but that’s always likely to be the case in an official production. The chat is still pretty interesting.

If the club can continue to take this forward with more exciting guests from the first-team, B team and women’s team, as well as former players, it will become very popular with the Hoops support.
