Cristian Gamboa has confirmed that he is to leave Celtic at the end of the season in an emotional social media post.
His contract is set to expire at the end of the season, and there was little chance of him signing a new one. As a result, he has decided to move on in the summer.
The right-back took to his Instagram account to deliver the news.
“Thank you”
“I just want to say thank you for making me and my family feel like home! We are leaving a piece of our hearts in Glasgow. Celtic will always have 4 Costa Ricans fans! Best of lucks!!! Pura vida!!!” he said.
It is no surprise that Gamboa has decided to move on from the club. He rarely featured for the first-team in his three seasons in Glasgow.
In that time he has made only 31 appearances for the Hoops. Therefore, with his chances of first-team football limited, he is doing the right thing for his career in leaving the club.
Next step will be intriguing
Where he will end up next is intriguing. The Scottish Sun recently reported that FC Copenhagen were interested in signing the player.
That could be a good move for Gamboa. He could end up playing in the Champions League for them. Perhaps he could even show Celtic what they were missing when it came to playing on a regular basis.
That is for the future. For now though, Gamboa is set to leave the club, and all at Celtic will no doubt wish him well.
