Celtic won’t go over €3m [£2.5m] to land Josip Juranovic from Legia Warsaw, according to Croatian outlet Index.

The report claims that Celtic have already had an offer of €2.3m [£2m] rejected for the Croatian international. This comes after a week of speculation over what the future holds for the Legia right-back.

Index believes that Celtic will definitely go in with another bid for their target. However, the Hoops won’t go above the £2.5m mark with the player keen to join.

It’s stated by the Croatian outlet that Legia believe his international status combined with his importance to the club adds to his valuation. The Polish outfit are in no rush to sell and is even ready to wait until January if a suitable offer doesn’t arrive.

Celtic, meanwhile, reportedly want the player signed before the tie against AZ Alkmaar [Glasgow Times]. The Hoops have a deadline of midnight tonight to add to their UEFA squad for the tie.

Celtic need Juranovic in now; penny-pinching won’t be accepted this summer

Celtic fans could be forgiven for having sudden flashbacks to the John McGinn saga. The last thing we need is for the club to be penny-pinching over a few hundred thousand.

You could even understand it more if it wasn’t for a priority position and we had plenty of alternatives ready to go. But the truth is we don’t. We simply need a right-back in as soon as yesterday. And if we allow Juranovic to fall through, we’ll be quickly running out of solid options.

Aurelio Buta clearly won’t be joining Celtic, whilst Yan Couto appears to be off to Braga on loan. We’re missing out on some of Postecoglou’s top targets, and Juranovic can’t afford to follow the same path. Not if we’re serious about Europa League qualification and challenging for the title.

No, Celtic don’t have an unlimited pot of money. Being starved of UCL qualification over the last several years hasn’t helped that. But there’s enough there to be strengthening the positions the manager needs. Remember, we’ve raked in over £30m on transfer sales alone since January.

Celtic fans know there’s money there to be spent. And if we fail to land Juranovic, it’ll turn up the heat on the boardroom once again.

Having an offer rejected is fine so along as we still manage to wrap this deal up. But at this rate, we’re quickly running out of time to do something before the UEL registration deadline.
