Sections of the Celtic support have laughed off the idea of Odsonne Edouard signing for Crystal Palace.

The Scottish Sun reported last night that the Eagles were eyeing up the Celtic striker for a January move. They also state, however, that manager Roy Hodgson knows it will be a tough deal to get over the line.

Edouard, meanwhile, has been in sensational form for Celtic. He’s bagged 12 goals and 12 assists in 24 appearances for the Hoops this season (Transfermarkt). In addition to that, he’s started his France under-21 career in blistering form with a stunning 10 goals in five games.

With form like that, it’s clear that some supporters believe he’s above a move to Palace. Taking a look at some of the different reactions to the report, here’s a look at what some in our support are saying:

Edouard has left Celtic in no doubt as to his commitment

In potential transfer stories such as these, one of the major factors is how the player feels. But nobody can say that Edouard hasn’t shown anything but total commitment to Celtic.

The Frenchman has continuously stated that he’s happy at Parkhead (Daily Record). In addition to that, he has a contract at Celtic which runs until the summer of 2022 (CelticFC.net).

So combined with his form and his happiness at the club, Celtic also have the peace of mind of knowing that he’s tied down for another two-and-a-half-years.

Therefore, Celtic hold all the aces in any transfer talks for the Frenchman. We’re not in a position where we need to sell, and Edouard hasn’t put any pressure on the club to accept an offer.

Supporters would clearly be furious if the Hoops board decided to let him go in January. At such a crucial stage of the season, there’s no guarantees with any potential replacement. Nine-in-a-row, however, simply must be valued higher than a few pieces of January silver.

Whether there’s something in this link or not, there will be plenty more transfer stories that Celtic fans will have to read over the coming weeks. Here’s hoping the board stands firm.
