Daily Record journalist Craig Swan makes positive Celtic Dubai claim

Daily Record journalist Craig Swan reckons there’s a “renewed determination” about Celtic as they get to grips with the stifling Dubai heat.

Neil Lennon’s men are in the Middle East for their usual winter training camp. They will head back home in the next few days before preparing to begin the new year with a Scottish Cup derby against Partick Thistle.

And after rounding off 2019 with a derby loss to Rangers, Swan reckons that Lennon’s men are even more motivated to put things right.

“It’s been an interesting one for Celtic in the sense that they were on such a tremendous run and everything was going so well,” Swan told Daily Record colleague Gary Ralston from Dubai.

“I think there’s a sense among the Celtic people to never get too high when things are going well, and not to get too low either.

“I don’t think they’re allowing that defeat to cloud their judgement but you do sense there is a desire and a bit of a determination.

“I sense there’s a renewed determination about the Celtic players. I think they were wounded by what happened in the last game before the split and I think there’s a desire to return and hit the ground running.”

Swan has seen Celtic training first hand

Hopefully Swan is bang on the money with his assertion. The team should be hurting pretty badly from the way the game went on December 29th. We were outplayed for large spells of the game, on our own turf, while the celebrations from the Ibrox mob really rubbed salt into our wounds.

But the truth is that that match will mean very little for what happens now. We’re two points clear at the top of the table and still have our destiny in our own hands.

It will remain that way if we match last year’s Dubai return form wise. A year ago, Brendan Rodgers’ side won their first 11 domestic matches of the year – scoring 30 goals in the process. A repeat of that would put us in a very promising position for a tilt at yet another treble.

Hopefully this Celtic team are just getting started.
