Daizen Maeda’s contract at Celtic runs for four years, manager Ange Postecoglou has confirmed in a press conference today.

It’s always been known that Maeda’s initial loan at the Bhoys from January came with a compulsory purchase option, but the announcement of the deal only stated it would be ‘long-term’ beyond that.

Postecoglou was asked about the loan situation in today’s pre-match press conference and the Celtic boss confirmed Maeda’s commitment.

Daizen Maeda Celtic contract runs for four years

He stated [Celtic YouTube]: “Daizen will absolutely be here. It was more of a technicality. He was always going to be with us long-term. There was no issue around that. It was just the way the deal was structured with Yokohama.

“He’s signed for four years, so he’ll be here for the future.”

This is good news, of course, considering the significant impact the Japanese international has made on Celtic already.

He’s been a breathless competitor in the hoops, closing down opposing defences and midfields while also contributing with goals and assists.

The high-energy forward is well on his way to becoming a favourite of the Celtic support already.

With a full pre-season in Scotland under Ange Postecoglou, he should get even better too. Next season could really be the time we see the best of what Maeda has to offer.

Still just 24, he has an exciting future at the Bhoys!
