Daizen Maeda has been reflecting on his 200 games for Celtic and has picked three goals the Japan winger has scored that he will never forget.

Maeda has netted 70 times for Celtic and has terrorised Rangers with five goals and five assists in 25 appearances against the Ibrox club.

And now, reflecting on his time at Celtic, Maeda has picked out three goals that stand out, including the time he picked Rangers defender James Tavernier’s back pocket in a controversial Glasgow Derby draw back in January 2023.

The Celtic goal vs Rangers Daizen Maeda rates in his top three

With Maeda in the team, Celtic have beaten Rangers 14 times out of 25 fixtures with the Japan international at the heart of all fixtures.

And picking the best goals as he reflected on his time at the club Maeda told Celtic TV, “Well, I suppose if I had to choose, I’d say the goal I scored in my debut match [against Hibs] is definitely the one I remember most.

“And then perhaps an away game in the match where I scored against Rangers.

“And in Europe, well, in European competitions, I’d have to say the match where I scored at home in the Champions League [vs. Club Brugge] I remember that one well.”

The controversial Celtic draw at Rangers where Maeda enjoyed his best Ibrox goal

The goal Maeda scored against Rangers in that Celtic draw was crucial in helping the club defend the title from the challenge of Michael Beale’s side.

The best part of the goal? Morelos and Tavernier was the main causes of the huge error.

Celtic went on to draw the game after a late Kyogo Furuhashi strike equalised the controversial penalty Rangers got to help them take the lead.

And, of course, Rangers also got away with one of the most blatant VAR handballs Celtic fans have ever seen after Connor Goldson used both hands to deflect the ball.
