The Nashville Celtic Supporters’ Club have thanked Daizen Maeda after meeting him at Japan’s World Cup Practice.

Maeda has established his status as a modern Celtic legend with his extraordinary form for the run-in, scoring in each of the Hoops’ last seven games of the season.

He is now preparing for the World Cup with the Samurai Blue, where he will face teammates Sebastian Tounekti and Benjamin Nygren in Group F.

The team have been preparing for their first game against The Netherlands, which takes place on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.

Celtic fans, will you be tuning into the 2026 World Cup?

Maeda is sadly expected to leave Celtic this summer, four-and-a-half years on from being brought to Glasgow by Ange Postecoglou.

His Celtic record now reads: 212 appearances, and 80 goals. He has won ten trophies and scored in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

Maeda came close to leaving Celtic last summer, reportedly even clearing his belongings from Lennoxtown ahead of a proposed move to Wolfsburg.

Speaking about his arrival in North America earlier this week, he said: “We have received a brilliant welcome here and I am very excited about the World Cup now, as everyone in Mexico seems to be too.

“I can already feel the World Cup atmosphere in Monterrey.

“Of course, the heat will be a challenge, but I like it. Our ultimate aim is to win the World Cup and we believe we can get off to a winning start against the Netherlands.

“This training camp ahead of the games is a crucial period for his team to maintain peak performance. We need to adapt to the high temperatures and this will be excellent preparation.”

Should Celtic grant Daizen Maeda his Premier League wish?
