Former Celtic icon Kenny Dalglish reckons the club’s supporters may have to realign their expectations this summer.

Neil Lennon’s men will be chasing a fourth successive Betfred Cup, a fourth successive Scottish Cup and a ninth successive league title but Dalglish thinks it’s important fans keep their feet on the ground.

Writing in the Sunday Post, the former Liverpool manager says: “To win nine domestic trophies on the trot is absolutely remarkable. But they will all be aware that the achievements are now in the history books, and it’s all about what they do in the next 12 months.

“The supporters are demanding success and some will even see doing another Treble in the new campaign as an absolute must.

“That may be a little unrealistic.”

Is Dalglish right?

The 68-year-old makes a really pertinent point. Winning a treble this coming season is by no means a guarantee. Far from it. In fact, it’ll probably be a harder achievement than the past three seasons.

There will likely be a number of new players at the club. They will take time to get used to their teammates, the manager and the expectations of Celtic. Our success over the past three years was built on steady foundations and players who had built a relationship with each other.

The competition also seems to be getting better with every passing year. Aberdeen and Kilmarnock will be contenders to get to the latter stages of the cup competitions if they get it right this summer. Hibernian are much improved, as are Rangers, and Hearts have shown they can give anyone a run for their money in a one off clash.

Neil Lennon and Celtic will just have to take it one game at a time. It will be incredibly tough but the fact remains that another side has got to topple us when it really matters. That is yet to happen to this group of players.
