Daniel Arzani says Celtic injury was tough on his family

Daniel Arzani’s ACL injury wasn’t just another set-back, according to the player himself.

Arzani spoke to Wide World of Sports in his homeland about his recovery last season, and spoke about how tough it was. After much excitement heading into the campaign over Arzani, he tore his ACL on his debut at Dens Park.

What made it even more frustrating was how tricky a customer the left-winger looked. He seemed capable of offering us something different, and losing him for the campaign was a disaster for his own personal development.

Speaking in his homeland, Arzani opened up on what his recuperation was like.

“It was really tough – really tough for my family. I think I showed I had some potential at the World Cup and I think the Asian Cup was a chance for me to set that in stone and really perform well. But it is what it is… what can you do?

“I didn’t actually think that I did my ACL. I was convinced that I hadn’t. Through my whole career, I didn’t ever have a serious kind of injury at all. It is what it is. It’s part of the game. Everything is back on track now, and I’ve got my physio here staying with me during the off-season and working really hard to get everything sorted. Everything is looking really really good.

“It was tough, but we’re almost there. It’s important to be patient with it and take your time coming back into it. It’s important to make sure you do pick up where you left off.”

Daniel Arzani’s ACL injury now all in the past

It’s all eyes on the future for Arzani now. This is a Celtic side that is littered with opportunity and under new management compared to when he first got injured. No longer is Scott Sinclair the out-and-out left-winger.

Mikey Johnston, of course, can stake claim to it. But now he’s struggling with injury and his return hasn’t yet been revealed either. Considering Arzani is now back in training (Scottish Sun), there’s a chance for him to make a real impression.

There’s a determination from supporters and there will be from Arzani that this two-year loan deal from Manchester City doesn’t prove a waste of time. We’ve already had a year of it wasted due to the unfortunate Dens Park injury. But with all of the excitement and hype that surrounded the left-winger after the 2018 World Cup, it would be great for the Hoops to really see what that was all about.

The Sarajevo second-leg tonight likely won’t see Arzani take part. But with Nomme Kalju coming up in the second qualifying round, it would be ideal to get Arzani playing or around the squad for that one.

Arzani seriously needs to make some form of impression before the season starts. It’s going to be extremely difficult for him to break into the team if he doesn’t. August 3rd sees us take on St Johnstone at Celtic Park in the league opener, being short of fitness for that one would put him up against it.

But it looks as though he’s out the other side of his injury nightmare. With a bit of luck, we now get an injury-free season from the talented young Aussie.
