Former Celtic starlet now at Dumbarton Daniel Church has detailed why he decided to leave the Hoops in September, the Dumbarton website reports.
The 20-year-old had spent 13 years at Celtic but confirmed on Twitter two months ago that he was leaving the club.
Church disclosed that he decided to move on from the Hoops as he felt that his Celtic career was only going to go as far as the reserve team. For first-team football, he was going to have to move on.
“Never made the first team”
“Since I was about seven years old, all I knew was Celtic, growing up as part of their youth team. Every year it was going well and it got to the stage where I made the reserve team. But I never made the first team and although I went to get games somewhere else, it was always in the back of my mind that it would happen that I would leave” Church said, as quoted by the Dumbarton website.
You can’t really blame Church wanting to move on from Celtic after those comments. If he felt at his age that he was not going to feature in the Celtic first-team then he was well within his rights to go elsewhere for first-team football.
If you can’t get into the first-team after knocking on the door for a while, then you are better off moving on.
Did well to get a new club
Church has done well to get the Dumbarton role, as it must be difficult for players who don’t have a club during this current pandemic.

However, Dumbarton boss Jim Duffy decided to make the move for Church and hopefully it pays off for the player.
It is sometimes better to try your luck in the lower leagues of Scottish football than it is to be stuck in the reserves with no hope of first-team football.
In other news, a reporter claims that Celtic staff were split over signing David Marshall.
