Recent Celtic target Danny Simpson has bizarrely responded to a Hoops fan on Twitter.

The Englishman was set to join up with Neil Lennon’s side for a trial at the start of the week. However, it was soon reported that the training stint wouldn’t be happening after Celtic closed in on Hatem Abd Elhamed.

The Sun reported that 32-year-old Simpson wasn’t happy at playing understudy to the Israeli, and the club also felt that a move was no longer right.

However, the former Leicester man doesn’t seem too downbeat following the news. Simpson responded to a Celtic fan’s sarcastic tweet saying that he would “be forever in our hearts” despite the move not going through.

He quoted the tweet with a shamrock emoji rather than a four leaf clover. Full marks for trying though.

Simpson replied in bizarre fashion to Celtic fan

What makes Simpson’s reply most surprising is that he wasn’t even tagged in the original tweet. The Celtic fan @BartBartin didn’t tag his handle @dannysimpson in the message – he simply posted his name.

It seems that the right-back likes to search his name on social media to see what people are saying.

Celtic’s attention will now turn on to other players in the position. Abd Elhamed may be due to sign at any point but we still need further reinforcements in the area.

Anthony Ralston clearly isn’t trusted by Lennon so he shouldn’t be considered as a viable option. Celtic need another right-back on top of Abd Elhamed.
