Celtic youngster Dara Jikiemi may learn that leaving Celtic at such a young age may not always lead to bigger things.

Jikiemi made his Celtic B team debut recently but could be leaving to head south of the border when he turns 17.

Liverpool are said to be closing in on a move for the young defender and follow a path that others from the Celtic academy have done, but it doesn’t always prove to be the right one.

The 2026 transfer window is still months away, but what is the number one position Celtic need to improve this summer?📝

Tell us why you picked that position

Celtic’s youngsters haven’t always fared well since moving early

While you can point to the likes of Rocco Vata and Ben Gannon-Doak enjoying success since moving on from Parkhead, there are plenty of examples of talents that failed to make the cut.

Daniel Kelly at Millwall is one example as although his chances in the Hoops first-team were limited, the 20-year-old has hardly been a regular in the Championship.

Kelly has played 12 times in all competitions for the Lions, despite hoping he could become a key figure.

Another Daniel, Cummings, has barely had a sniff at West Ham United. Sure, he wasn’t getting opportunities here, but was he really going to stand more of a chance with a Premier League club?

Others over the years include the high-profile departure of Islam Feruz to Chelsea as a 16-year-old.

He never made a senior appearance for them and has since retired from football to pursue other interests.

Liam Hughes to Liverpool and Armstrong Oko-Flex are also other prime examples.
