Darren Fletcher and Charlie Adam told new Celtic man he’d be happy in Glasgow

New Celtic defender Moritz Bauer has revealed that two former Scotland internationals wished him well immediately following his move to the Hoops, The Telegraph report.

Bauer was announced as something of a surprise signing on Wednesday.

He’s joined on a season-long loan from Stoke City, with the Scottish champions having the option to buy at the end of the season. It’s a much needed acquisition considering our lack of depth at right-back.

The player himself seems delighted to be part of the squad.

He may have been partly influenced in his decision by striking up a relationship with Celtic-supporting former Manchester United man Darren Fletcher while at Stoke.

Both Fletcher and former Gers man Charlie Adam reckon he’s going to have a good time in Glasgow.

As quoted by The Telegraph, Bauer said: “When I was at Stoke I’d drive in sometimes with Darren Fletcher and he was one of the first people to congratulate me. Charlie Adam – who played for the other side obviously – text me already.

“Fletcher is a really big player and I learnt a lot from him. The same with Charlie.

“They know Scottish football and both said I will feel really happy here.”

What can we expect from the Austrian?

Hearing the player’s interviews and press conferences since signing, the one thing he has promised at Celtic is a strong work ethic.

That clearly goes hand in hand with his position, but it’s been suggested he’ll be going above and beyond to try and impress on the right flank.

He’s also hinted he will be a primarily attacking full-back which, in the majority of our matches, is obviously a big benefit.

Crucial though is whether he can show the defensive discipline in big European matches and at venues like Ibrox on Sunday.

The best full-backs at Celtic manage to bring a balance to their play.

It’ll be very interesting to see which player Neil Lennon goes with primarily over the next few weeks and months, with new signing Hatem Abd Elhamed also eager to make the position his own.
