Celtic’s Irish heritage is always close to the supporters’ heart so when the opportunity comes to support a cause there it’s great to see the club step up.

Just last week 67 Hail Hail discussed Celtic arranging a friendly with Sligo Rovers during October‘s international break.

Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers, admitted the fixture was important for the club to recognise the large fan base the club has in Ireland and spoke of his delight at returning to his homeland to take part in the fixture.

And just this afternoon, Celtic made another superb announcement as the Glasgow giants pencil in a September date to help Irish side, Rathangan Football Club in County Kildare celebrate its 30th birthday by helping ‘deliver a fantastic coaching experience to kids and coaches alike’.

Celtic to hold coaching day in Ireland

Celtic will team up with Rathganan FC which currently has 26 teams from Junior Academy ages four to seven and over 35s that deliver access to football to over 450 members.

Rathganan has been providing football in the area since the 1990s and to celebrate their landmark achievement, Celtic will be holding a coaching day on the 21st of September much to the delight of Professional Player Pathway Manager, Darren O’Dea.

And staff from Celtic including Darren O’Dea and Jose Romero, Celtic’s International Soccer Academy Manager, have committed their time to the trip.

O’Dea told Celtic’s official website, “Grassroots football is so important to the game’s wider development and anything we can do to support in this area, then we are delighted to provide as much assistance as we can.

“I know that Rathangan has been delivering some excellent work in its local community and we are delighted to offer our support.

“We are really looking forward to our visit. Football is about relationships and connections and it is brilliant to connect with Rathangan in this way as we celebrate 30 years of success.

“Celtic’s Irish history and heritage means so much to the club and our supporters and it is great for us to connect with a club in Ireland which is delivering such important work to young people in its local community.”

Spectators can watch the event from 1:15pm to 3:30pm on the day.

It’s a great gesture from Celtic and one that will go down with the club’s massive supporter base in Ireland.

And who knows, Celtic could find a star of the future as it continues to build on the strong roots they already have in the country.
