Darren O’Dea knows soon to be appointed Celtic boss Neil Lennon very well. Lennon was the Hoops captain when O’Dea first broke into the Hoops side more than a decade ago.
Therefore, he is well-placed to deliver his verdict on how Lennon will fare in his upcoming second spell as Hoops boss.
He is more than confident that Lennon will be able to handle the pressure of leading the club to success.
“Enormous pressure”
“Yes there is enormous pressure, but he could come back in 10 years’ time and there would still be enormous pressure” O’Dea said, as reported by the Daily Record.
“It was just whether Celtic felt they would give the job to him. I have no worries about whether he will do well or not – he will do well.”
Team couldn’t play with freedom
Being brutally honest, it is hard to judge how Lennon fared in his time as interim boss. The team weren’t allowed to play with any freedom, as Lennon wasn’t sure if he was getting the manager’s job.
That may be the reason for the cautious approach adopted by the Hoops for most of the games Lennon took charge of.
Hopefully with the appointment almost confirmed, that will free up the Hoops to play some exciting football next season.
O’Dea certainly sounds confident that Lennon will do well. Only time will tell, but playing some good football can only help.
