Former Celtic boss Davie Hay feels that the Hoops made a mistake in the summer transfer window by not signing a striker.
Writing in his column in the Evening Times, Hay expects Celtic to rectify this situation in the current January window, to ensure that the club doesn’t have to rely on Odsonne Edouard so much.
“In hindsight, Celtic are paying the price for not bringing in another striker in the summer. There was never any guarantee over the fitness of Leigh Griffiths, while Bayo was untested at this level” Hay said.
“Something up his sleeve”

“I’m sure that Neil Lennon will be looking to rectify that mistake soon, and I’m certain he will have something up his sleeve to take the pressure off Odsonne Edouard. They have to rectify that error in this window.”
To an extent it was understandable why the Hoops didn’t sign a striker in the summer window. After all, there are three strikers at the club. Perhaps Neil Lennon thought that Leigh Griffiths and Vakoun Bayo would hit the ground running this season.
However, it hasn’t turned out that way. As a result, the Hoops have been extremely reliant on Edouard. That could change following the January transfer window though. Celtic do seem eager to make up for not signing a striker in the summer.
Hoops linked with a host of strikers

Celtic have been linked with a host of strikers in this January window. Andraz Sporar, Tyrese Campbell, Tino Kadewere and Patryk Klimala have been reported as possible Celtic signings in January.
You would imagine that at least one of those players will sign for the Hoops. That would mean that the team no longer has to rely on Edouard so much.
If the Hoops don’t bring another striker in then it could be costly, especially in such a tight title race. Thankfully it looks like another striker will arrive at the club, and Hay will be correct about the Hoops making up for an earlier error.
