Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has called upon the Gunners to complete a swoop for Kieran Tierney this summer.
The Celtic full-back has already been the subject of a failed £15million bid from Unai Emery’s side. They are, however, expected to return to the table while Serie A Napoli are also interested.
The Gunners are in dire need of reinforcements after missing out on a Champions League place for the second successive season. Tierney is seen as one of a raft of new signings they could have in place this summer, but former England number one Seaman thinks acquiring the Celtic man should be a priority.
He told Football London: “It’s no secret that Arsenal need to strengthen their defence, certainly after missing out on Champions League qualification. I think Tierney would be an ideal addition for Arsenal.
“He’s young, he’s talented. I think I’m right in saying he’s already captained his club and country and by all accounts he’s a hard worker with a great attitude.
“Being British he’d also settle in straight away and there would be no period of adjustment. I really think they should be looking to sign Tierney before setting their sights on Zaha.”
Seaman makes a pertinent point
The Gunners are already reported to have bid £40million move for Crystal Palace’s Zaha and Celtic must be laughing at their temerity. The London side seem adamant they can get Tierney on the cheap and it could prove to be their downfall.
Celtic have set a clear asking price of £25million on the left-back’s head and we are right to demand every penny. The 22-year-old loves playing at the club and will be in no rush to move away. Added to that, we have him secured under contract until 2023 while the club are in good financial health.
It is all those reasons that mean Arsenal will soon have to pay up or shut up. If the Gunners rate their man highly enough then they’ll pay what he’s worth. In the modern market they’d still be getting themselves a bargain.
