David Turnbull admitted “it’s tough” to not be getting as many starts as he’d like with Celtic but says he remains focused on doing all he can for the club.

Turnbull was named in Ange Postecoglou’s starting eleven for just the eighth time this season against Greenock Morton, though he has featured an additional 17 times from the bench.

Getting two goals in two games will have done his chances of more match action no harm at all and he says he still feels like an important part of the squad.

Asked about his lack of minutes, Turnbull said post-match: “It’s tough for anybody not playing as much as you like. You just need to go in there when you get your chance and try and take it with both hands.

“That’s all I do, train as hard as I can and the same when it comes to the games. Just try as best as I can. I think I’m a big part of this club and every time I train or play I just give 100% and don’t look at anywhere else.”

Turnbull was also asked about his restrained goal celebrations, which raised the eyebrows of some Celtic supporters the other night against St Mirren, but for the midfielder the explanation is simple.

He said: “Well we were 4-0 up the other night. I was happy with the goal obviously but it was a bit cold for that.”

The midfielder had a much bigger smile on his face today when Celtic’s third hit the back of the net against Morton.

Turnbull’s all-around game was promising this afternoon and is definitely enough evidence to back up his words that he remains plugged in and committed to the Celtic cause.

Competition for midfield places is fierce right now with Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Aaron Mooy all contributing but Turnbull is on the right track after his showings over the last few days.

Hopefully he can kick on from here. He has the talent and is still just 23, so there’s definitely long-term upside for him at the Bhoys.
